Betrayal

I walked beside you
On the longest sidewalk
Our shadows short behind us
Our conversation felt endless
From time to time
Someone would join us
But eventually they all left
And we would still have us
But one day you turned away
Leaving me standing betrayed
I couldn't follow you and you knew
So I stand here watching my shadow
As it grows out long before me
